Hyundai take over Times Square

Over the past year, we have started to see more and more interactive billboards controlled by your phone. The first I can remember was back when Coca Cola allowed people to play a game on the big screen to get a free burger. Now Hyundai have taken it one step further, by allowing passers-by in Times Square to control a gigantic racing game.

Users simply download a free app, jump in a queue and then get to race on the big screen. It seems there is no other incentive necessary. I must admit it’s a great use of technology, and it must be fun playing something on such a huge scale. The question is, in one of the biggest areas for footfall in the world, will these busy people take the time to download an app simply to have a little fun? I do hope so, and at least having the app installed does mean that the brand can communicate much longer term with the consumer. Nicely done Hyundai.
