The Intern Abuser

On October 10th and 11th this year, people around the globe can let off some steam by abusing an intern in real time. A series of robotic contraptions will be set up for people to have some fun with. Simply pick your method of pain, get in line and unleash it on the unsuspecting victim. It’s a little cruel yes, but will it be fun? I imagine so.

What’s more, it seem that the stunt is created by an agency to showcase their innovation, not a brand. I guess there aren’t many brands that are willing to sucker punch a guy in the face with a robotic arm. It’s a nice idea, in a similar vein to Shoot the Truck earlier this year, and I know I’ll be tuning in next month to see how it unfolds.

Everlasting Light rained down from the heavens

During The Black Keys final song at Osheaga 2012 this year, thousands of pixels rained down over the crowd. This accompanied the song ‘Everlasting Light’, and the crowd could grab them as they fell. It’s a really nice way of enhancing the moment, and a unique stunt that will get people talking. The LED rain was produced by Moment Factory in collaboration with Air France.

BMW tablet controlled projection

BMW were launching their new model in South Africa and wanted something innovative and interactive. This large-scale projection screen let passers by race using iPads given out by staff. All the results, and leaderboards were housed on the Facebook page, further raising awareness and amplifying the event through social channels. Although the technology is nothing new, it’s still a nice implementation, and looks pretty fun to play.

Ignite Sydney - The fastest 5 minutes there is

When I first applied to be a speaker at this years Ignite Sydney event, I didn’t really know what I was signing up for to tell you the truth. But here I am, a day after and I’m extremely glad I took part. The format is really challenging; 20 slides, 5 minutes, 15 seconds a slide. It really flips presenting on its head, and makes you truly think about every word you are going to say. It’s goodbye to lazy presentations, and hello to thought out and inspiring talks with substance and purpose.

After many late nights, too many re-writes to count and lots of screwed up pieces of paper, I decided that bombarding the audience with facts was not the way to hold a rooms attention. For that reason, I decided to simply tell a story, and it seemed to go down pretty well. You can check out the slides below:

There were some great presentations on the night, and a vast array of topics on show. The entire experience was enlightening, not just from a persecutive of the challenge of presenting, but also as a spectator as I watched 13 very brave people talk about their passions. Thanks to everyone that turned up on the night to support, there was a great crowd, and the relaxed atmosphere really made it easier.

HONDA - Interactive happiness wall

In an ‘Australian first’, Honda have created this great interactive wall at a recent motor show. The wall detects peoples faces, works out their sex, and then creates a bespoke animation based on how happy they are. Some great tech behind this, but also a cute social idea.
