Google Maps: Now at an indoor near you

As people become more reliant on their mobile devices to navigate the world around them, there is one place that still remains a mystery, the great indoors. Well, google think they may have finally solved the problem of getting lost inside huge indoor spaces. Introducing Google Maps Indoors. Now, through your Android devices, you can navigate these environments to find things around you, including what floor they are on. To help launch this, google have teamed up with Ikea and mapped their stores so people can find departments faster.

This clearly has massive opportunities for large retail brands such as Westfield, as until now they have attempted to create their own technology to achieve this, now it’s built right into google maps. I wonder what other buildings will be added? Stadiums? Malls? Offices? Stations? Airports? And, more importantly, when is it coming to iPhone?

The Planet Zero

A new campaign site from Nissan to educate on the topic of renewable energy. This site is a joy to explore, with navigation kept exploratory, and messaging landed in very simple (but beautifully designed) mini games. It’s a very unique way of guiding the user through what could have been relatively dry information. It looks like they will be releasing more games over the coming weeks too, so there is a reason to come back.

The world created for the site reminds me a little of Super Mario Galaxy, with it’s ‘planet-like’ worlds to wander around. While the Art Direction in the above video is a little reminiscent of something coming out of Aardman, or even Pixar’s Wall-e, with the characters emotions landed in actions as opposed to words.

More recently, I have started to fall in love again with Flash and what it can offer over HTML5. It is these kind of rich, three dimensional experiences that simply would not be possible using HTML5 that keep Flash alive. Overall, a beautiful campaign that is exceptionally well executed, and another fantastic digital project from the guys at Unit 9

Have fun on the site for yourself. Trust me, it’s addictive.

Official site for Loïc Rémy
Check out this site for French international footballer Loïc Rémy. Really simple use of navigation, with great video feedback for your actions. Had fun playing with this one. And I thought the Flash microsite was dead.
Have a play for yourself here.
