Google unveils Project Glass

This project has been bubbling away for a while now, and finally we are getting a few more details about it. These new wearable internet-enabled glasses are poised to change the way you interact with the world around you. Using the latest tech, you can search using your eyes, create videos in real time and share them with friends, and even invite you friends to see the world through your eyes. You can’t deny how cool this is. You can sign up now to be one of the first to get one. My only question is, does it come with prescription lenses?

Sydney lets you explore it in 360
The latest campaign from Destination NSW lets visitors from all over the globe experience Sydney like never before. They have created a series of videos in beautiful 360, showing off some of the highlights of the areas in and around the city. Taking it social, you can upload an image of yourself and add yourself into the experience. Here’s me surfing in Bondi (of course if it were me in real life, there would be considerably more wipeouts!). It’s a nice virtual tourism piece, and a fantastic way of letting potential visitors experience it before they arrive.
Have a go for yourself here.

MySpace is back from near death

It must have only been a couple of years ago that MySpace launched a new visual identity to try and draw people back to its platform. The once king of social media has struggled to move with the times, to keep up with other networks innovations and to position itself properly in the market. With a fresh redesign, and a new identity (which looks a lot like its first logo to tell you the truth), they are once again poised to become relevant once again. The interface is modern and a joy to explore, the imagery is large and striking and the experience seems familiar to anyone that has been swiping their way through tablet apps these past years.

Could this refresh and the backing of Justin Timberlake be enough to bring MySpace back from oblivion? Who knows, one things for sure, it’s got me interested in it once more. And with Facebook now over-populated, and filled to the brim with mums everywhere, this could once again be the platform for kids to express themselves away from prying eyes.

Excited as I am? Sign up for the new MySpace here.

Googlighting

In a brave move from Microsoft, they turn on their biggest competition, Google and take direct hits at some of their ‘cloud-based’ apps. It’s pretty funny, and a very different approach to their standard forms of advertising.

The site it eventually drives to though is a little disappointing.

Come work at Twitter: The Future is you

This recruitment video for Twitter is so bad, it’s actually good. Mocking old internal videos of the past, the low-budget look and feel really add to the comedy. Nice work Twitter.

Thief caught on camera in new viral from LG

The term ‘viral’ video is something that is a little overused and often extremely difficult to define. Mainly because, what ‘goes viral’ on YouTube, isn’t always what you expect. This new video from LG could have the potential to be spread. The pay off at the end does make you double take and massively lands the product benefit. However, does it condone shoplifting?

What do you think? Clever stunt or just too cheesy to be believable?

What the world searched in 2011

Good Zeitgeist have just released a video that sums up what the world were searching in 2011. It’s a great little summary of some of the most significant events from the year.

The thing I love most though is the supporting site. It’s a stat lovers dream, and summarizes the top ten searches from the year with supporting imagery and insights. It’s great to look through and see how these search trends grew over time.

Check it out for yourself here

A view of the future

Microsoft make some pretty cool predictions about how technology will make our lives easier in the future. It looks like simplicity will be key. Devices that integrate with everything, anywhere. Voice control is obviously massively on their radar too, with most aspects of the video utilising voice commands.

How much of this will become reality? I guess only time will tell.

Halloween viral from Axe

To celebrate Halloween this year, Axe in the US have created this short horror movie. The twist? Well, even Zombies can be attractive thanks to Lynx. Happy Halloween.

Ignite Sydney - The fastest 5 minutes there is

When I first applied to be a speaker at this years Ignite Sydney event, I didn’t really know what I was signing up for to tell you the truth. But here I am, a day after and I’m extremely glad I took part. The format is really challenging; 20 slides, 5 minutes, 15 seconds a slide. It really flips presenting on its head, and makes you truly think about every word you are going to say. It’s goodbye to lazy presentations, and hello to thought out and inspiring talks with substance and purpose.

After many late nights, too many re-writes to count and lots of screwed up pieces of paper, I decided that bombarding the audience with facts was not the way to hold a rooms attention. For that reason, I decided to simply tell a story, and it seemed to go down pretty well. You can check out the slides below:

There were some great presentations on the night, and a vast array of topics on show. The entire experience was enlightening, not just from a persecutive of the challenge of presenting, but also as a spectator as I watched 13 very brave people talk about their passions. Thanks to everyone that turned up on the night to support, there was a great crowd, and the relaxed atmosphere really made it easier.

For those sitting on the fence not sure if they want to present in this format, you absolutely should. It will change the way you think about presenting forever. Get involved in 2012, go on…. tell them griffinabox sent you.
